Project Bluebird is not a single film. It is a long listening.

Over the next three years, we are documenting the unfolding life and work of Sunny Dooley, a Diné (Navajo) storyteller from Chi Chil’ Tah—“where the oaks grow.” This living film project captures a story still becoming through short documentaries, longer-form storytelling, and unscripted moments of truth.

Sunny carries generations of Blessingway stories in her voice—stories that teach harmony, balance, and belonging. Weaving Navajo and English, she restores the connection between people, land, and spirit.

When COVID swept across the Navajo Nation, it took an entire generation of elders—the keepers of language, ceremony, and healing knowledge. In that silence, Sunny stepped forward. She gathered supplies, visited isolated families, and listened as elders entrusted her with stories that might have otherwise vanished. In those years, a mantle settled on her. She became a healer, carrying the medicine of memory.

Yet her own circumstances remain fragile. The Dooley family land near Gallup—ancestral homes and a ceremonial hogan—had fallen into disrepair, unreachable for much of the year. In late 2024, Legacy Voyages sat with Sunny as she shared a vision to create a sanctuary on her land where healing stories could take root.

Project Bluebird was born as we watch Sunny’s dream come to fruition and with it, healing for those with ears to hear. We will keep listening. We will keep telling the story as it unfolds. We invite you to follow.
